Ombudsman Invites Members of the Defence Community to Annual Awards Ceremony

Ottawa, October 7, 2010 – Department of National Defence and Canadian Forces Ombudsman, Pierre Daigle, will be presenting commendations to four members of Canada’s Defence community at a special ceremony on October 21, 2010, at the Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess in Ottawa, Ontario.
 

The ninth annual commendations ceremony will include the presentation of the Ombudsman’s Special Recognition Award, which recognizes individuals who have gone well above and beyond the normal requirements of their job in bringing about positive and lasting change to the Defence community. This year’s recipients of the Ombudsman’s Special Recognition Award are:
 

  • Captain Dave Blackburn, Command Social Work Officer
     
  • Mrs. Elizabeth Atkins, OSISS Family Peer Support Coordinator
     

Mr. Daigle will also present the Liz Hoffman Memorial Commendation for Complaint Resolution. This award serves to acknowledge the contribution of Defence employees and Canadian Forces members who have demonstrated outstanding problem-solving and complaint-resolution skills in working cooperatively with the Ombudsman’s Office. The Liz Hoffman Memorial Commendation for Complaint Resolution will be awarded to:
 

  • Chief Warrant Officer France Dupuis, Chief Instructor, St-Jean (former Career Manager)
     
  • Warrant Officer Madonna Musgrave, Supervisor – Released Personnel Pay Office - Reserves
     

In previous years, the Minister of National Defence, Chief of the Defence Staff, Chief of the Land Staff and numerous parliamentarians, senior leaders and government officials have attended the ceremony honouring award recipients.
