The appointment of the Ombudsman of the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces

Message from the Ombudsman | 27 June 2019

I am extremely humbled to be appointed as Ombudsman of the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces. Having started my career in the Naval Reserve, this is truly a “coming home” moment following 33 years of service in the Canadian Coast Guard.

During my interim appointment, I have worked with an incredible group of 65 passionate public servants who are dedicated to advancing the interests of the large and important constituency that is the Defence community.

I also want to take this opportunity to thank my predecessors for their contributions to this office since it opened its doors 20 years ago. Each Ombudsman made positive and lasting impacts for the Defence community. Building on these contributions, I look forward to making many more during the next five years as Ombudsman.

It truly will be an honour to support those who have served, those who support our members, those who continue to put their lives at risk for Canada and very importantly, their families.

Gregory A. Lick, CD
